The System Has Failed, but No One Noticed2026

The System Has Failed, but No One Noticed is a diptych based on the artist's everyday commuting experience. Each morning, when the monorail passes through a restricted zone, the train windows automatically blur, preventing passengers from seeing the landscape outside. This technical obfuscation functions as a form of external regulation: the system defines its boundaries by controlling visibility.

At first, passengers are curious about the obscured space. However, this curiosity gradually fades as they turn their attention to their phones and the continuous flow of digital information. One day, the system malfunctions—the glass no longer blurs, and the previously concealed landscape becomes visible again. Yet no one notices, and no one looks up.

The work examines this near-invisible moment of "non-event," addressing the shift from external discipline to self-discipline in contemporary society. When control is fully internalized, the system no longer needs to operate. What truly fails is not the technological apparatus, but human perception and the desire to look.

In an increasingly mediated and high-speed environment, individuals become progressively detached from the physical world, enclosed within screens, repetitive information loops, and everyday inertia. The work seeks to evoke a condition of modern disorientation: where greater access to information and freedom paradoxically coincides with a diminishing capacity to perceive the surrounding world.
